When the game doesn’t work

A few days ago I printed out a set of cards for Trapped in the Library. Well, looked through the extensive and exciting list of characters which Mill and I had put together, did some balancing of skills which those characters might have, and tried to match them to the monsters.

It didn’t work. It really didn’t work. The characters’ skills were far too diverse. In the first row I had three available monsters, nine characters, and no combination would get me through. None whatsoever. It didn’t work.

It’s back to the spreadsheets. This is why we make paper prototypes.
