Playing the baddie in games

Many, many months ago I posted about a voting game I was trying to make work. The game was pretty simple — you’re all cartoon villains trying to steal people’s votes. The ways in which you stole the votes would be real examples of disenfranchisement, voter suppression, or gerrymandering. The main problem was that it’s not that fun for everyone to be bad. It just didn’t work well enough, and the game ended up being far too serious.

Last night I was given a really, really good idea at a (zoom) party. What if one player was secretly good? There are many traitor games out there, but what about traitor games where most people are bad and the traitor is the good one? A kind of secret hero game.

I’m going to see how this works and report back…
